Privacy Awareness Week

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is held every year to raise awareness of privacy rights and emphasise the importance of good privacy practices.

The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) is highlighting the importance of how personal information is collected and accessed.

OVIC will host several events to discuss the value of applying reasonable access controls. These controls help ensure that the right people access the right information at the right time in your organisation.

Privacy and the DataVic Access Policy

Not all Victorian government data can be released under the DataVic Access Policy. Access to some data must be restricted to protect:

  • privacy
  • public safety
  • security and law enforcement
  • public health
  • compliance with the law.

The DataVic Access Policy requires agencies to share de-identified datasets when possible. If a dataset includes personal information (as defined in the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014) and cannot be de-identified, it cannot be released under the policy.
