The Department of Transport and Planning has made improvements to the Yarra Trams GTFS-R data to help passengers make decisions about their journeys using the right information at the right time. The following changes were made on 29 September 2025:
- Trip Updates: the Delay field has been removed and RouteID field has been added.
- Vehicle positions: Route ID field has been added, occupancy status has been removed until a later date, vehicle information has been improved, and StopId will be published if the tram is at a particular stop.
- Service Alerts: enables disruption messages to be mapped at the route level.
Please note: the information in the current ‘Required’ data fields remains the same and data feeds continue to follow the global standards and specifications. However, access to these APIs has moved from the Data Exchange Platform (DEP) to the Transport Victoria Open Data Portal as DEP will be decommissioned on 30 September 2025. Create an account in the Transport Victoria Open Data Portal and generate a new API key to continue accessing these APIs.
This change is being made as part of the Public Transport Data Program.
