The Department of Transport has begun making journey-planning safer and easier for passengers. From December 2021, travel app developers have access to real-time metro train services data, including:

  • departure
  • location
  • occupancy.

This data is available in an industry-standard format (GTFS-R). This gives passengers a greater choice of apps to access travel information.

First launched via RideSpace and Google Maps, now the following apps are using our API in their journey planning tools:

  • Apple Maps
  • Moovit
  • AnyTrip
  • Arevo
  • Citymapper
  • NextThere
  • TripGo
  • TripViewLite
  • Transit

More apps, like Placie, are getting ready to incorporate our real-time data.

This initiative will minimise wait times on platforms as more Victorians return to the workplace. Passengers can travel with confidence knowing how busy their train will be before they begin their journey.
