Local Government Performance Reporting Framework
The Government introduced a mandatory Local Government Performance Reporting Framework (LGPRF) for all Victorian councils on 1 July 2014 in response to two Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) reports which found reoccurring issues with the quality and relevance of council performance reporting.
The LGPRF is a key initiative to improve the transparency and accountability of council performance to ratepayers and to provide a more meaningful set of information to the public. The project delivered a standardised set of performance indicators that enables comparative reporting and benchmarking between councils.
The Government has committed to build a 'MyCouncil' style website platform that enables collection and dissemination of LGPRF data that will allow the Government, the community and councils to assess individual Council performance and benchmark against other councils. There is currently no local government performance and benchmarking website.
The LGPRF has been developed by Local Government Victoria (LGV) within the Department of Transport Planning and Local Infrastructure (DTPLI). It will introduce a mandatory performance reporting requirement for local government for the 2014-15 local government annual budgeting and reporting cycle onwards.
