Statewide road network, line - 1:250,000 to 1 :5 million. Vicmap Lite

This layer is part of Vicmap Lite and contains line features representing the road network. Vicmap Lite datasets are suited for use between scales of 1: 250,000 and 1 : 5 million. The linework was sourced from Vicmap Transport. The level of attribute information, the number of features and the number of vertices has been simplified to suit the 1: 250,000 - 1 : 5 million scale range. The concept of a Scale Use Code has been introduced to help control the level of detail displayed.

Geospatial Coverage 141,-39,150,-34
Geospatial Scale 1:25,000
Geospatial Accuracy For the TR_ROADS product attribute accuracy ranges between a 1% to 5% error. For this product attribute accuracy will be better since, the vast majority of data is composed of the higher class, ie (highways instead of minor back roads). The source line work was generalised using an enhanced Douglas and Peucker simplification algorithm. The algorithm keeps so-called critical points that depict the essential shape of a line and removes all other points. The algorithm connects the end nodes of an arc with a "trend line". The distance of each vertex to the trend line is measured perpendicularly. Vertices closer to the line than the tolerance are eliminated. A 30m tolerance was used on this dataset
